Professional Background
I founded J.L. Kaplan Associates in 1976, an institutional small-cap value manager which managed more than $5 billion. I sold the firm in 2002 to Evergreen Investment division of Wachovia Bank in 2002. I later founded Cubic Asset Management in 2007. I was also a professor of mathematics at Northwestern University and later an associate professor at Boston University.
Personal Interests
I enjoy golf, tennis and skiing. I also own a vineyard in Napa, California, producing Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.
